Knock-Out Report by John Hartley

Seventeen year old Keith Kinnersley is the new CBSL Magnet Cup Snooker champion.
The Hartlepool Snooker Centre player recorded a 4-2 victory over Mark Kennedy (Redcar Unionists) in the final played at Carlin How WMC recently.
Both players were off a handicap of minus 10, and they both struggled in the opening frame to get things going. Kennedy eventually won it 40-25 without any major contributions from either player.
The second was much of the same from both, with Keith doing enough to win this one, and he finally got his arm going in the next with a break of 31 to take a 2-1 lead. He made two breaks, 32 and 38 in the next frame to move within one frame of victory, but Kennedy kept in the match with a 68-43 scoreline in frame five.
Frame six saw Mark clear from the last red to the black when behind, but couldn't pot a difficult final ball. Keith took his chance at it and won the frame and match.
The final of the Bass Seniors Shield was played at Guisborough Quoit between Ted Foreman (Redcar Lakes) and Peter Dunn (Redcar Unionists). Dunn opened up a 2-0 lead with some good clean potting, but Foreman then rediscovered the form that had taken him into the final and won the third 52-9. Both players potted well in frame four, but again Ted did enough, and the match went into a decider. It was another close frame, but some nice long pots towards the end saw Foreman complete the recovery and win the match 3-2.
The final of the William Young Cup featured Redcar Lakes ‘D’ and Guisborough Quoit ‘A’, in a match played at Guisborough Cons club.
Lakes had Dan Harris (+10) up against Paul Thompson (scr) first, and Harris won 63-38. Col Savage (scr) levelled the game for Quoit, beating Ted Foreman (+25) 72-54 in the next, but it was plain sailing for Lakes from their on in. Brian Norris (-15) beat Jonny Thompson (+5) 76-50 with a 30 break, before Harris beat Paul Thompson again 71-30. Foreman then clinched the next frame against Savage 55-28 to give the Lakes a 4-1 victory.
Liam Clark has successfully defended the William Nelson Shield title, with a closely fought victory over Keith Kinnersley in the final.
The match, played at the Blytheholme Social Club in Stockton, was a tight encounter between two very closely matched competitors.
Kinnersley started the stronger, with a 47 break in the opener, but Clark countered with a 35 to level the match up.
Liam then knocked in a 58 break to win frame three and move 2-1 ahead, but this time Keith fought back, and a 51 break from him forced a decider.
The final frame was much more cautious, with both players missing chances. Liam eventually got in, and managed to win the frame 67-35 and take the title once more.
